For the purposes of this course we will focus on serotype A, as it is the most common serotype used for cosmetic and aesthetic purposes. Botulinum toxin serotype A is used for aesthetic purposes; many brands of this toxin are available. In 2009, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), recommended brands use specific names over the serotype to refer to the different formulations of the toxin. The commercially available formulations of botulinum toxin serotype A, in the United States, include the following:

1. OnabotulinumtoxinA (Botox)
2. AbobotulinumtoxinA (Dysport)
3. IncobotulinumtoxinA (Xeomin)
4. PrabotulinumtoxinA (Jeuveau)

OnabotulinumtoxinA is also known as Botox, which is a brand name; the company behind Botox is Allergan - they also have the infamous line of filler known as Juvederm.

AbobotulinumtoxinA is also known as Dysport, which is a brand name; the company behind Dysport is Galderma - they also have the infamous line of filler known as Restylane.

IncobotulinumtoxinA is also known as Xeomin, which is a brand name; the company behind Xeomin is Merz - they also have the infamous biostimulatory agent Radiesse.

PrabotulinumtoxinA is also known as Jeuveau, which is a brand name; the company behind Jeuveau is Evolus.
